Sacré Béton ! De la haine à l’amour

Amazing concrete! A love-hate relationship

From the 10th of October 2015 to the 18th of December 2016 at the Tony Garnier Urban Museum

Concrete is an essential material in modern construction.
However, it suffers from a somewhat negative image... This is probably in part due to its widespread use in large, unattractive construction projects on the outskirts of towns and cities during the 1970s.

However, to be fair, concrete played an important role during this period of rapid urbanisation. Easy to use and economical, concrete was able to meet the urgent need to build large-scale new housing developments.

Once a symbol of modernity, it was the material of choice for major architects.

Located in the heart of the district conceived by Tony Garnier, this exhibition gives visitors a chance to discover a place where concrete went hand-in-hand with quality of life and comfort.
Today, concrete has evolved along with the possibilities offered by technical and ecological innovations, giving rise to impressive feats of architecture. Did you know that it's now possible to make concrete that depollutes or glows?

Did you know that concrete was used as far back as the Roman Empire? Did you know that the region surrounding Lyon played a historical role in the cement industry? Find out about all this and more...

This is a "must-see" exhibition to give concrete the recognition it deserves and discover an ancient building material that is still making the headlines!
