Festival for humanity

From 15th March to 3rd April 2016 at the Lyon Opera, TNP, Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse and CHRD

This year for its festival, the Opera embraces the theme of tolerance.

The Opera stages all emotions, love dramas, mourning, war, injustice... in a word, humanity. That is the theme chosen by the Lyon Opera for its 2016 festival.

Opera becomes militant and invites us to think differently about barbarism, intolerance and hate which disfigure humanity.

The programme includes 4 different works that explore obstacles to freedom and the right to live:  la Juive by Halevy from the nineteenth century (not performed in France since 1934), and two twentieth century works: The Emperor of Atlantis  by Viktor Ullmann at TNP of Villeurbanne and a new production: Brundibár by Hans Krasa (opera based on a children's story, all audiences), at Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse.

Finally, a creation specially commissioned for the festival: Benjamin, dernière Nuit  by Michel Tabachnik, recounting the final hours of the philosopher and art critic, Benjamin Walter.

The Opera has opted to stimulate thought and debate through the beauty of musical emotion.

Do not miss the " Rêver d'un autre monde " (Dream of another world) exhibition at CHRD, the event's partner (free access with the Lyon City Card)

The opera offers a reduced rate on presentation of the Lyon City Card.
