Legendary costumes

The Textile Museum is hosting an exhibition of costumes designed and manufactured at the Lyon Opera’s costume workshop - Until January 4, 2015

2014: the Textile Museum is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

The Lyon Opera is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its renovation.

To celebrate this double anniversary, they are presenting 130 stage costumes.

The "stage is set" the moment you enter... as the velvet curtain is drawn,  you are instantly lured into the magical atmosphere of the theatre as you discover these marvellous costumes, each as luxurious as the next.

Organised by theme, each exhibition room divulges legendary characters. You can discover the costumes of major classical opera figures while videos provide an opportunity to see the characters as they perform while you listen to chosen pieces from the operas. The overall effect is outstanding making for an extremely enjoyable visit.

The highlight of the show - because this exhibition is a unique, can be viewed in the "Salle des Tapis" which has been specially transformed into an Italian style theatre with its own stage and balcony. The effect is particularly striking here; where you can discover the costumes that were manufactured for three successive productions of Mozart's "The Magic Flute".

As a "fitting" end to your tour, the exhibition takes you behind the scenes at the opera where you can visit the dressing room, costume workshop and fitting room, etc.

Excitement awaits: Discover the magic of the Opera!

A superb attraction and one we definitely recommend!
