Major end-of-year performances

With Christmas and the New Year 2017 will be taking a final bow on a festive note. And the forthcoming year is looking rather promising...

The Christmas holiday period always comes with an impressive schedule of great shows and highly commendable concerts. And this season is no exception!
Here is a short selection of the most effective antidotes to the cold and gloom by far!
Opéra de Lyon will be staging   la Cenerentola by Rossini , in which a strong-minded Cinderella stars in an enthusiastic and very energetic melodrama that oscillates between laughter and tears.

There is cause for great rejoicing at the theatre this year with the mischievous transformations of  Arturo Brachetti  at the Théâtre des Célestins, from the 14th to the 31st December!

As for concerts, Bach and Handel will be in the spotlight with le Bach's Magnificat  being played at the Grand Temple on the 18th and 19th of December by Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu, and you'll be treated to two magnificent versions of Handel's Messiah on the 21st December at La Chapelle de la Trinité ( Robert King & the King’s Consort ) and on the following day ( Sébastien d’Hérin conductiong Les Nouveaux Caractères & Choeur Accentus ) at the Auditorium. More baroque musique with  Pastorale de Noël  by M. A. Charpentier at La Chapelle de la Trinité on the 19th December.

There's also the  Christmas  Gospels at La Chapelle de la Trinité,  on the 16th and 17th December, and on  New Year's Eve  at L’église de la Résurrection in Villeurbanne on the 31st December.

And let’s not forget the essential New Year concerts with  So British! at Opéra de Lyon at 8 pm on the 31st December, or  Broadway  at the Auditorium, on the 29th, 30th and 31st of December and 1st of January, to begin the year with a touch of optimism!

And last but not least, the Great Ballets! You can choose between  Nutcracker  by the Russian State Ballet and Opera House at the Amphitheatre on the 20th December or  Réveillon entre Danube et Volga  at La Bourse du Travail on the 31st December.

And in a very different vein, there's the Christmas circus or  Cirque de Noël , which will be performing every night from the 23rd of December to the 7th January under the "Imagine" big top in Lyon.

A word of advice: book now, just to be on the safe side!
A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!
