The Mysterious Gardens Festival

From the 13th to the 29th March 2015, at Lyon's National Opera House and the TNP in Villeurbanne

This Nouvel-designed Opera House  is celebrating its 20th anniversary!

20 years of operas, music and dance are well worth celebrating!

This year, the Opera festival will be exploring three "Mysterious Gardens"… Three different worlds in the form of three artistic strolls that take us from love to death and beyond...

The Stigmatized  by Schreker takes us to the heart of the tragedy endured by Carlotta, Tamare and Alviano in the lavish times of the Italian Renaissance. Created at the end of the First World War, and inspired by the new thoughts of Freud, this opera is staged by David Boesch.

Orpheus and Eurydice  by Gluck, is the myth of separation and farewells. It relates the desperate quest by Orpheus, distraught with pain and love, who ventures to the very bowels of hell in search of Eurydice… Contrary to Greek mythology, this opera has a happy end. It is directed by Enrico Onofri, the specialist of the baroque world.

The Sunken Garden  by Michel Van der Aa at the TNP was commissioned by the Opera. This is a disturbing work in which people disappear in the beyond, between life and death. Will they return or venture further still? Fear not: this opera is not morbid; on the contrary, it is full of emotion and… lightness. The onlooker can even become confused between real and unreal...

Mysterious indeed!
