BIG ! Biennale Internationale de la Gastronomie 2017

BIG*, the biennial international taste event (*Biennale Internationale du Goût)

From the 20th to the 25th January 2017, in various locations throughout the city of Lyon

In January, on odd-numbered years.

For its second edition, BIG will be honouring gastronomy for everyone.
In parallel to SIRHA (the world hospitality and food service event), the organizers wanted to create an event that would be open to everyone and centred on gastronomy, a topic that is dear to the hearts of all those who live in Lyon.
All the conditions have been met to ensure this event achieves its objectives of conviviality, sharing, and gourmet food-tasting experiences to the full!
During 6 days, 11 events will be held throughout the city, with 43 BIG-approved restaurants offering events and extended hours, and 5000 litres of soup will be served free of charge!

The Programme 

  • The festival's key event is the Taste Tunnel held under the Modes Doux tunnel from midday to midnight on the 21st January 2017. The huge market on the Rhône side will bring together the very best producers, artisans and retailers in the food trade in and around Lyon, gathered together for you to taste and buy their wares. You can also take part in cookery classes and enjoy Monsieur Paul Bocuse's delicious soup free of charge.
    On the Saône side, La Grande Tablée: 50 chefs (most of them star-rated) will be treating 3,400 guests to lunch or dinner served by 250 waiters… A record-winning comprehensive gastronomic meal (wine included) for €30.
  • The next record in the offing will be the longest praline brioche in the world, which should delight many food tasters at the Pôle de Commerces & Loisirs Confluence site on Friday 20th January 2017, followed by a gourmet cinema evening at the UGC-Ciné-Cité-Confluence cinema starting at 7 pm.
  • An auction sale of contemporary Haute Cuisine will be held at the Auction Room at the Canal flee market (Puces du Canal) on Sunday 22nd January 2017.
  • Head for the Big Festiv’Halles on Monday 23rd January at the Halles de Lyon between 7.30 pm and midnight, to enjoy the products on offer in this Mecca of Lyon's gastronomy!
  • On Wednesday, culinary workshops for kids will be coordinated by chefs followed by a "Ratatouille" cinema & snack event at the UGC-Ciné-Cité-Confluence cinema
  • And finally, gourmet trails will invite you to discover the food stores and restaurants in the Presqu’île…
