The last weaving workshop still in activity in Old Lyon presents in its shop a wide range of silks produced in the Soieries Lyonnaises: ties, headscarves, scarves, stoles, chiffon and velvet fabrics, and much more.
Our workshop-store: an essential visit when discovering Lyon's heritage! Soierie Saint-Georges is where you can discover and become acquainted with Lyon's silk weaving history. During a guided tour, discover how silk and gold thread is woven on 19th century Jacquard looms. You'll be given a close up view of how fabrics designed for couturiers and château furnishings are made. You'll be shown all the techniques that have shaped Lyon's history since the 16th century; all the different stages, from design drawings to weaving on traditional looms. Our store offers the widest range of silks produced in Lyon at attractive prices. You'll be charmed by our ties, headscarves, scarves, stoles, wraps, chiffon and velvet fabrics, and more, all created thanks to traditional know-how.

Virginie Varenne, directrice de la Maison des Canuts Interview "...Maison des Canuts..." Virginie and Philibert Varenne, Managers. Maison des Canuts

Let's now head for La Croix-Rousse, a very industrious hill, which was once the silk workers' district.
Along with her husband Philibert, Virginie Varenne runs the Maison des Canuts (Silk Workers' Centre) which they have both renovated together… You enter through the shop, a bright area featuring an architectural style characteristic of the area with its high wooden ceilings. The white walls really bring out the sparking colours of the silk products.
As a walking encyclopaedia on theLyon silk trade, Virginie Varenne devotes all of her time and energy to sharing her passion for this industry with visitors and to sweeping away a few misconceptions!
